NELLIE is a 42 year old woman who lives with her youngest daughter, SISSY (11 years old) in an upper-middle class neighborhood. She suffers from Polycystic Kidney Disease, which she had well under control until an injury to her kidney in an automobile accident. The loss of her husband RAYMOND in the accident left her as a single mother with one kidney and no life insurance payment. RAYMOND’S neglect of updating his life insurance policy left everything to his previous wife and NELLIE with nothing. Her entire world turned upside down with court proceedings, a mound of responsibilities, RAYMOND’S bitter ex-wife, and a young child to provide for. After suffering from infections in the only kidney she has left, NELLIE goes into renal failure which requires more time than she’s willing to give. Neglect leads to other ailments that start to affect not only her health, but her family as well. A near fatal heart attack leaves NELLIE in a coma and inspires SISSY’S crusade to raise money and advocate for Kidney Disease treatment and awareness.
